01 Feb. 2023

On February 1, 2023, Keio Center for Strategy (KCS) invited H.E. Mr. Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), to a pre-opening event at Mita Campus.

Kohei Itoh, President of Keio University, opened the event with a welcoming address, followed by a keynote lecture from H.E. Mr. Jens Stoltenberg titled ‘NATO and Japan: Powerful Partners for a New Security Reality.’ In his speech, he explored the evolving security dynamics in Europe, NATO’s role in the region, and the significance of enhancing Japan-NATO relations.

After the keynote lecture, a panel discussion took place, facilitated by Associate Professor Michito Tsuruoka, Faculty of Policy Management (Deputy Director of KCS). He was joined by Professor Yuichi Hosoya, Faculty of Law (Director of KCS), and Professor Satoru Mori, Faculty of Law (Deputy Director of KCS).

In total, about 100 people attended the event, including Keio University students and researchers from both within and outside the university. The latter half of the event was particularly interactive, with many questions and comments being raised by the audience.

In the midst of increasing uncertainties and unpredictability in the world affairs, Keio Center for Strategy (KCS) was established within the Keio Global Research Institute in March 2023 by synthesizing Strategic Studies, International Security Studies, International Relations, and Geoeconomics.
