Keio-Cambridge Seminar on Japan-UK Relations ‘A New Era for the Japan-UK Strategic Partnership: How can it be strengthened?’
In recent years, we have witnessed the rapid deepening and broadening of the strategic partnership between Japan and the UK. However, with the formation of Keir Starmer’s Labour government, the direction of Japan-UK cooperation is being reassessed. On the other hand, Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has decided to step down from his post. With new prime ministers in both the UK and Japan, can the UK-Japan strategic partnership be strengthened? We discuss how Japan and the UK define the value and challenges of this increasingly important bilateral relationship from a historical perspective.
